"Talk about Tanglin Road and we would probably think of Tanglin Mall, Dempsey Hill, Botanical Gardens etc. I decided to draw this stretch of Tanglin Road in front of Tudor Court which was formerly government houses before it was later occupied by Singapore Tourism Promotion Board in the 1970s. This part of the road leads to a roundabout known as Tanglin Circus where the former Marco Polo Hotel used to stand. The hotel was designed by Alfred Wong who also designed the former National Theatre and the current Furama Riverfront Hotel.
Another landmark along stretch of road was the Singapore Handicraft Centre which was opened in 1976 and closed in 1990 to make way for the current Tanglin Mall and Hotel Jen Tanglin (formerly Traders Hotel).
The roundabout has since been replaced by a system of road junctions after the mid 1970s. There used to be a grand fountain at the center of the roundabout and there were also pineapple plants surrounding it.
Other lost landmarks around the Tanglin Circus also include the former Tanglin Post Office and the ANA Hotel (later Century Park Sheraton Singapore, the hotel building was demolished in 2008)" - Lee Xin Li
