Cluny Road and Cluny Court
Cluny Court was a set of two shophouses built in 1928 and earlier. It is located along Cluny Park Road, which was previously Cluny Road until around 2000s. Cluny Road was originally built as Cross Road which connects Napier and Bukit Timah Road in 1856. It was later referred as Cluny Road in 1864. It might be named after the First Pilot of the New Harbour, Jacob Clunis or Cluny, a place name in Scotland.
I was curious about Cluny Court has been one of the landmarks I have been seeing when going to Adam Road Food Centre to eat or taking the MRT at Botanic Gardens Station. During this circuit breaker, it is one of the landmarks on my cycling routes around Bukit Timah Road and doing some grocery shopping at the 24hr Cold Storage.
The building once housed a coffeeshop named Sai Nam Hng (西南园) and the upper floor housed the Heng Yew Sia Association (兴友社), which has relocated to Geylang. The shophouse was later turned into the current Cluny Court, a boutique shopping gallery in 1997.
Both Cluny Road and Bukit Timah Road are also popular cycling routes Cluny Road connects with Napier Road via Evans Road. Bukit Timah Road connects with Farrer Road, Adam Road and Dunearn Road. These routes could take you north to Thomson, west to Bukit Timah, south to Holland Village & Queenstown and east to the city area including Newton and Orchard.
