Located in the northern part of Singapore. Sembawang was mentioned as early as the 19th century. The name might come from the sembawang tree (kayea ferruginea). Similar to Seletar, it is one of the areas in Singapore with many colonial era structures. Most of which were related to the huge naval base that was located here. A small part of the area continues to function as a naval base under the Singapore Navy today.
One of the most notable landmarks of Sembawang is the Beaulieu House, a holiday residence built in 1910 for Joseph Brooke David, a Jewish businessman. Today, house is occupied by the restaurant. The fixtures such as the doors and windows were a little different from its earlier days.
